"It means antibiotic are those drug which work against bacterial life."
  • Antibiotic are chemical substance or compound which is produced by various species of bacteria.
  • This antibiotic kill or inactive the growth of different bacteria.

  1. Beta - Lactam  Antibiotic
  2. Non Lactam Antibiotic
Beta - Lactam Antibiotic
  • In this type of antibiotic present beta Lactam ring.
Example :-
  • Penicillin
  • Ampicillin

Beta - Lactam Antibiotic uses
  • Meningitis

Non Lactam Antibiotic
  • In this type of antibiotic beta - Lactam ring is not present.

Natural Antibiotic
  • These type of antibiotic are obtained from natural sources.
Example :-
  • Penicillin = Penicillium Notatum
  • Erythromycin = Streptomyces Erythreus
Semisynthetic Antibiotic
  • This type of antibiotic are prepare by adding commercially chemical compound in natural compound.
Example :-
  • Ampicillin

Based on Spectrum of activity 
  • Spectrum of activity means how much capacity antibiotic has to kill or suppress growth of bacteria.
  • According to spectrum activity antibiotic are two types.
  1. Narrow spectrum antibiotic
  2. Broad spectrum antibiotic
Narrow Spectrum Antibiotic
  • This antibiotic is a specific antibiotic it means it is only work against specific bacteria.

Broad Spectrum Antibiotic
  • These antibiotic work large number of pathogen it is also effect virus.

  • This type of antibiotic is stop the growth of bacteria as well as sports.
